Guymon Tigers football teams won a pair Monday night. While it was unfortunate that it wasn’t the varsity, the junior varsity handled Clayton, N.M., 38-22 and the Guymon Junior High eighth grade team shut out Hooker JH 31-0.
GHS JV 38, Clayton 22
The JV Tigers won their first game of the season with a 38-22 tally. The record stands at 1-6.
The Yellowjackets stung first, scoring late in the first quarter.
Guymon quarterback Kale Smith tied the game in the second quarter with a keeper into the end zone. The score stood at 8-8 until late in the half when Baily Homan scored. Anthony Luna scored another Guymon touchdown 10 clock seconds later, giving the Tigers a 22-14 lead going into halftime.
Clayton answered late in the third quarter, knotting the game at 22-22.
Homan put the Tigers back on top to stay in the fourth with a rush into the end zone from the 3-yard-line two plays after he carried the ball about 40 yards. Smith bent the Yellowjacket’s stinger a little more with a run across the goal line for the final score.
GJH 31, Hooker
The eighth grade Tigers improved their season record to 4-2 with one game remaining with a 31-0 shutout of the Hooker Bulldogs.
Riley Kokaly, Matthew Mallard, Drew Winter, Jovan Ochoa and Aaron Huckins all scored touchdowns.
