Sign Up NOW for Jerry Cooper Golf Camp

Chase and Jerry Cooper are pleased to announce they are currently signing area youth up for their annual junior golf camp. The camp includes children ages six and above and will be conducted May 28-31 - next week.

Cooper said the cost for participation in the camp is $75 for one child or $65 each if more than one in a family is being enrolled.

Ages 6 through 8 will be expected to be at Sunset Golf Course from 9 to 10 a.m., ages 9 and 10 will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. and ages 11 and above will begin at 11 a.m. and wrap up at noon.

Jake Test: Exceptional Athlete, Student and Young Man

Most high school athletes work their entire high school career before they truly get their chance to shine. However, every now and then an extremely exceptional athlete comes along and is off and running just as soon as he or she hits the doors of their local high school.

Guymon High School Sophomore Jake Test is such an athlete. As pitcher for the Guymon Tigers baseball team, Test came incredibly close to breaking the school record for strikeouts pitched.

Lady Tigers Softball, Pitching Camp, Summer Season Just Around the Corner

The Lady Tigers softball team has been doing some spring training over the past couple of months, but things are about to get busy. Head Coach Wesley Bryson is not only looking forward to an exciting season, but softball and pitching camps as well - and they are right around the corner.

Softball camp for ages 5 through fifth grade will participate in Session No. 1 from 8 to 10 a.m., sixth through eighth grade students will participate in Session No. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon on June 10 through 13.

Softball/Pitching Camps Available For Youth

Ages 5 through fifth grade will participate in Session No. 1 from 8 to 10 a.m.
Sixth through eighth grade students will participate in Session No. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon on June 10 through 13.

Pitching camp will be conducted from 8 a.m. to noon for beginners and 1 to 5 p.m. for intermediate pitchers on June 22.

All forms can be downloaded at www.guymontigersoftball.com under the forms tab and be mailed into the address on the form. Deadline is June 1.

Underclassmen Make Waves at State Level

Underclassmen don’t always get the credit they fiercely earn. However, sometimes they can make such a splash, everyone notices. The amazing thing about these particular athletes is they aren’t even close to being done impressing those that cheer them on.

Ballard bound for Bogata, Texas for 2013-14 football season

Just this past week, Guymon Tiger Head Football Coach Bryan Ballard announced his resignation. Due to family ties in Texas, he and his crew will be packing up and heading south - to Rivercrest High School in Bogata, Texas.

Ballard said the move is bittersweet, he has enjoyed his time as leader of the Tigers football team, and feels things are headed in the right direction.

Bledsoe places third in 5A girls shot put

Bledsoe beats personal best - by long ‘shot’ - at State

Guymon Lady Tiger Erin Bledsoe, a junior, placed third in Class 5A Girls Shot Put Friday in Yukon. Track Coach Ty Ware said Bledsoe was sitting in third place during the preliminaries. However, during the course of the finals, she was in fifth place, until she threw 37 feet, 6 inchces - breaking her personal record by almost two feet. Ware said Bledsoe was ecstatic upon realizing she had placed in the top three.

Guymon students ‘Walk Like Tigers’

Guymon elementary and junior high students were out in droves Wednesday - approximately 1,800, in fact - walking like tigers - literally.

Academy Elementary Physical Education teacher Nadine Graham said this is the second year for the event to be conducted on the Guymon High School track. Walk Like a Tiger is a joint endeavor between Guymon schools and the Texas County Coalition.

Panhandle State men win hometown rodeo, Frost named All-Around Cowboy

Filled with top quality talent at the Hitch Pioneer Arena during the beautiful weekend in the Oklahoma Panhandle, the stakes were high and the competition strong. Many hard-working individuals strived hard to produce the Doc Gardner Memorial Rodeo, the recently named Rodeo of the Year for the Central Plains Region.
