February 22, 2012

GUYMON - In their second overtime game of the week Tyrone was able to reverse their luck and come out on top. Despite losing to Balko in overtime the night before the Bobcats were able to land the 59-51 win.
Tyrone started things of slow in the first two quarters and couldn’t get their shots to fall. Gage on the other hand came out firing, hoping to prolong their season.
Their was sloppy play on both ends of the court in the early going, neither team managing to handle the ball very well. It benefited gage who took advantage of some Bobcat turnovers and gained the early 11-6 lead.

Lady Eagles soar to victory

February 22, 2012

GUYMON - Goodwell’s girls team started the game out just as they had anticipated. The Lady Eagles earned a quick 15-3 lead at the end of the first and left Tryone reeling. After withstanding a late game surge Goodwell would hold on for the 33-27 win.

Eagles land a win against Felt

February 22, 2012

GUYMON - Goodwell’s boys team was just another victim on the Forgan path to victory on Thursday night. After a loss like that it can be hard to rebound. Friday night the Eagles played against a tough Felt team and rebound they did, for a 57-41 win.
Ryan Bryant lead the Eagles with 18 points against a very strong post team. Felt was able to make any offensive threat inside the paint extremely difficult.
Bryant and the other Goodwell posts did a good job of containing the height advantage that Felt had and held their tallest player to just ten points.

Guymon spring sports practice underway

February 22, 2012

After months of winter and basketball it is time to once again get outside for spring sports. While soccer has been practicing since December, this week finally has some excitement with their first scrimmage Saturday.
The Lady Tigers may have lost 13 seniors from last year’s team, but they are relying on their six seniors this year to lead the team.
“We spent the month of December just on conditioining. We didn’t touch a ball until January 15. So we have been practicing awhile, it will be nice to finally get soem games in,” said Guymon girls soccer coach Michele Davis.

Tiger softball program makes some changes

February 22, 2012

High school freshmen have always been able to participate in the varsity softball practices in the spring. That practice gives them the experience they need to step on the field in the fall. Kids Inc. softball is a good way for younger girls to gain softball experience before the high school level.
In recent years the Guymon high school coaching staff has noticed that there is a gap between the two programs. Eighth grade girls have often been left out off Kids Inc., because they are too old; at the same time they are too young to participate in high school practice.

Balko outlasts Tyrone

February 17, 2012

GUYMON - In a nail biter last night neither Balko or Tyrone’s boys teams wanted to give up the final basket. At the final buzzer Balko was able to sneak away with the three point,70-67, overtime win.
Early on in the game Tyrone seemed to have all the momentum and theings were going in their favor, but Balko hung in the game. At any given point in the first half the lead was never more than four points.
At halftime it was a two point game. Neither team was giving in to the other.

Lady Bison blast Tyrone

February 17, 2012

GUYMON - The No. 3 ranked Lady Bison showed last night why they are one of the favorites for the state tournament against Tyrone. Their complete control of the game from beginning to end left Tyrone with a 23-74 loss.
Three players in double digits Balko’s pressure defense locked down the Tyrone offense for a majority of the first half. It seemed every attempt to cross half-court was futile for the Lady Bobcats,
“I think once we started rotating girls into the game, after they had seen the press from that perspective things worked a little better for us,” said Tyrone’s coach Hope Cox.
