Residents at the 100 block of north Oklahoma awoke to their tree broken in half Friday morning. Wind gusts between 60 to 70 mph have trees, debris and even trampolines flying all over the place. Please take extreme precautions in preventing fires, as Texas County is still under a burn ban.

Several classes from Academy Elementary stopped by the Guymon Fire Department last week to show their appreciation for all they do to keep this community safe. The kids made signs of thanks and serenaded the firemen with a firefighter song.

Yet another wildfire spread quickly Thursday afternoon on Highway 3, approximately 11 miles toward Hardesty. Several area emergency officials responded to the blaze. No injuries were reported.

Students in Diana Seabaugh's third grade class at Academy Elementary got a special treat on Friday, March 25, with Culture Day. Students brought food from all different cultures and had a special visit from foreign exchange student, Tanapa Tanamool from Thailand. While the students sampled all of the different foods, they learned about Thailand and how our cultures differ, as well as how some things in all cultures are the same. Some of the cuisine from Mrs. Seabaugh's class included horchata, enchiladas, polish sausage, hot dogs, cabbage soup, green curry chicken and chicken fried rice.
