Hooker and Goodwell girls were the first two teams to face off in the tournament yesterday afternoon.
Hooker took an early lead against the Bobcats and by the end of the first quarter was up 21-4. That lead would continue to grow for the Bulldogs as they got ahead 41-16 at halftime. Shania Miller led the Dogs with 19 points in the game and her teammate Kyra Cathcart added 14 in their eventual win.
TEXHOMA - Where the Texhoma girls left off last night, the boys picked it right up in their game against Boise City on Thursday night.
Like their counter parts, the Red Devil boys pressured Boise City early on in the game trying to get them out of their offense and score some easy points on turnovers.
âI told our players that we need to play on our level and at our intensity to work on our pressure and offense,â said Texhoma head coach Greg Higgins.
TEXHOMA - Early in the game the Texhoma girls team was really putting the pressure on the Bobcats of Tyrone. That early pressure helped them to hold Tyrone to just 14 points in a 73-14 victory.
After the Red Devils outscored Tyrone 28-5 in the first quarter they drew back their pressure and settled into a half court defense. Offensively Texhoma was able to get the ball wherever it needed to be, and in their half court offense they really worked the inside advantage.
Before half Tyrone was able to scrap together 11 points but it would do them no good as Texhoma really got going.
TEXHOMA - In the closest game of the day at the Texhoma 34th annual tournament Goodwell and Tyrone battled right up until the buzzer sounded. Neither team ever earned much of an advantage, with the largest lead during the game being ten points. Goodwellâs Austin Glover drove to the basket with just under ten seconds to go and gave them the 54-55 win.
