It only took one meeting for Jerry Olson to know Marcale Marshall was the player his team needed.
On a recruiting trip to Moraine Valley Community College, Marshall got the attention of Oklahoma Panhandle Stateâs head coach not only with the way he played but with what he said.
âHe actually redshirted his second year at junior college and that gave him a chance to watch guys and learn and see what they were doing wrong,â Olson said. âHe saw guys that werenât going all out and he said that was going to change when he got back. He said he wasnât going to accept that.
GUYMON â Only one convenience store failed an alcohol compliance test conducted by the Guymon Police Department Wednesday evening.
"We sent an underage informant into all the convenience stores and liquor stores in Guymon and only one store sold alcohol to the minor and did not ask for identification or ask for their age," said Guymon Chief of Police, Eddie Adamson.

HARDESTY, Okla. â One year later, charges have yet to be filed on the man who allegedly killed his step-father, shot his mother and shot himself in the head.
It was Dec. 30, 2009 when James Ray Clayton, now 25, allegedly shot and killed his step-father, William Burl "Clay" Clayton, grazed his mother, Deidra Clayton with a bullet and then turned the gun on himself. Deidra Clayton was taken to Guymon's hospital and later released.

The Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies return for their first home game in 31 days Friday, hoping their home rims will help them keep up with the high-scoring Central Christian Tigers. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
âThe thing that really stands out about them is that they average 93 points a game,â OPSU coach Jerry Olson said. âThey have three or four really good guards that can push the ball and they can shoot.â
2010 will end with a bang on New Year's Eve. The place to be Friday night is the Texas County Activity Center in Guymon, where a live concert from the Award winning Christian Rock band, Pillar, will be performed.
Pillar was started in Kansas in 1998 by Lead Singer Rob Beckley and signed by Flicker records in 2000. After growing up in a small town, Beckley knew it could lead with kids making not so good choices due to lack of things to do and wanted to give them an alternative.
The group is now based out of Tulsa and signed with Essential Records.
A retirement party Dec. 14 honored Thyra Grounds for 29 years of dedicated service in the Assessor's Office, the last 12 years serving as County Assessor.Â
"I want to thank the voters of Texas County for trusting me to be your County Assessor," said Grounds. "I am going to miss the people I come in contact with through the office for the past 29 years. The new Assessor you have elected will do a great job. Thanks again Texas County."
The list of candidates for the Oklahoma Panhandle State head football coach position has grown quite lengthy in the three weeks since it came open, and now administrators are ready to start shrinking that list.
As of Wednesday, OPSU President David Bryant said the school had received 50 applications for the position, which became open when former head coach Mike Wyatt died earlier this month.

We almost had it.
The circumstances were nearly perfect. The timing was right. The situation was ideal. Then Kyle Brotzman missed a chip shot field goal that would have won the game ... then he missed another that cost Boise State the game in overtime.
3 car collision in front of KFC slows 5 o'clock traffic
Traffic moved slowly beside the scene of this three vehicle wreck. The accident occurred shortly before 5 pm yesterday afternoon at the corner of S. May St. and HWY 54.
